It is Monday 18th of October,
Yesterday after a smooth crossing to Newcastle I met Mike at Dobbies in Ponteland around 13.00 hrs.
We had a tea and coffee and according to Plan A made by Mike we would inspect two Tyne beats and possibly fish the Rede at West Woodburn.
These beats are in the Tyneside Anglers Syndicate of which we are members.
After skilfully leading the way by Mike, we first visited the Tyne at Wylam near the railway station, a tidal stretch most evident by the seal we saw for a few moments.
It is a big river and the beat was interesting with islands, riffles and deeper glides.
Beat number two was at Bywell, this part of the Tyne is further upstream, here too a big river with nice pools.
To try some fishing on the Rede we found the stretch after a long conversation with two locals.
Going down to the river the wet high grass soaked our pants kneehigh.
A smaller river with lovely pockets and deeper pools.. As I neared the waters edge I managed to spook a big fish judging by the large wake it made. Nothing caught.
Just before dark we climbed up to the cars and went to Sainsbury in Kelso. We had our dinner at 23.00 hrs.
After a good nights rest we were up at 08.00 hrs.and on the river at 09.00 hrs.. We met Jim and his son David and I got my permits.
Mike made the first significant connection as I only had two little trout.
Here is the seatrout.
Well done, very nice fish.
