Tuesday 19th October
We were up early but were not at the river until about three o'clock.
There were several important things that got our attention whilst it was raining.
There was the fridge door that did not close properly and was fixed by adjusting the hinge bracket.
Then the failure of Mike's smartphone with its Android 4.0 needed some explanation.
We made plans to fish the Whiteadder a tributary of the Tweed and studied the maps provided by the Tyneside Anglers Syndicate. Mike expressed his concerns about me not bringing my permit and warned I could loose all the gear stashed in my car if a bailiff checked me and detected I was without a permit. I was not impressed.
Mr.Salvesen, the owner of the estate, came by and made sure we were in good order and there were no problems with our digs.
My waders were inspected by Mr.Leaky Waders himself and the possible failure site was detected, a neoprene seam in the front of the foot. I happened to receive a present of Black Witch neoprene glue and iron-on wader repair tape.
Mike made several calculations to assess the costs individually of our holiday experience at the cottage.
After the assessment he was positively surprised by the costs, it was less than believed.
Then Mike ate his packed lunch, his beef and vegetable chunky soup in the cottage.
At the bench we met Adam who fished from 8.30 hrs. and had one salmon at the Campstream and lost another. He got a message that he had been near a friend who was diagnosed to have Covid-19 so Adam was asked to be tested. We kept our distance and Mike even wore a face mask.
We spoke to Terry the new Secretary of the Jedforest Angling Association who had chopped one of the fallen trees yesterday.
I managed to catch one trout, that was all for today. From the appearance of the bats till dark we did not connect to the seatrout we hoped to deceive. We heard and saw a few crashes.
We had an oven dinner concocted by Charlie Bigham, very tasteful, Thai red chicken curry & fragrant rice.
At twelve o'clock Mike's eyelids dropped while I was telling him something even I do not remember.
It had to do with wine and whisky we consumed.
